Fun Field Trip

Tuesday's field trip to New Bedford was action packed. Our first stop was to the Ernestina. We explored both the refurbished area, and the older area. It was impressive to learn that we were on a boat that was built in 1894 and traveled the world. She went all the way to Cape Verde, and even up towards the North Pole.

Our time at the whaling museum was enjoyable as well. Those docents know their facts! Who knew that whalers drank lemon juice to prevent the onset of scurvy and therefore brought lemon pressers on board?

The walking tour of New Bedford was unfortunately cut short due to the downpours, but we were able to visit a few historical buildings. The highlight of the day for the fourth grade teachers was the compliment that a museum visitor paid to us - his wife was a teacher for 30 years and he accompanied her on many field trips. He said he had never seen a group as well behaved as ours!
