Some highlights from our week include:

All School Meeting was back in the Commons. It sounds so much better! The new sound panels on the walls and ceiling really help. Our own Nathan was one of the first volunteers to get up in front of the whole school and participate in "Book Buzz". He shared a review about the story "Three Cups of Tea". Way to go, Nathan!

On a side note, All School Meeting is one of my favorite times of the week. It is great to work in an environment that promotes such a strong school community. Did you know that All School Meeting is open to the parents? There is a row of chairs for you in the back. Don't worry if you don't know the lyrics to our school song - they are usually posted on the screen.

Art: We are making scrimshaw "whale teeth" out of clay.

Music: We are learning sea chanties.

Science: We began making our terrarium with 2-liter soda bottles .

Social Studies: Mr. Garfield came in and talked about shellfish and how he grows them. We also broke up into our "mixed-up" social studies groups again to work on a project. See if your child can tell you what the project is.

Announcements:

  • 4th grade will be visiting Ernestina, Whaling Museum and National Park Service on Tuesday, October 13, 2009. We will be leaving at 8:15 – DO NOT BE LATE!!! Make sure that you child eats breakfast since we will not have snack, but eat lunch at 11:00. If you’d like to join us for any of these activities, we’ll be at Ernestina (docked off Front St.) at 8:30, at the Whaling Museum from 9:00-11:00, lunch from 11:00-11:30 and a NPS walking tour from 11:30-12:30.
  • A parent has graciously volunteered to buy pizza for each 4th grader as their lunch on Tuesday. If your child would like pizza, please email me or send in a note so we can have enough pizza for all. However, you’ll need to provide a drink for your child.

Enjoy your Columbus Day weekend! ~Mrs. Lawless
