Happy Heart Day

We acknowledged Valentine's Day a little bit early in our classroom today! We shared cards with each other, ate some goodies and played Pass the Valentine (similar to hot potato). We missed you, Jenna!

In Math, our weekly Target Math competition is really picking up. The class is divided into two teams. The students have their own individualized pack of calculation problems that they are working on. After they copy the problem onto graph paper and solve it, they get to throw a ball at a "target" on the whiteboard, consisting of various points.

The team joins their points together, and adds them to the previous week's total. At the end of the year, all participants will receive a prize, but the winning team will get something a little extra.

The current total is:
Grace, Jenna, Alex and Sammy - 30,393 points

Aidan, Nathan and Sam - 31,3145*
* to compensate for the fact that this team has one less player than the other team, one student per week gets to double his points*

In Social Studies we are working on a variety of activities. Today in our mixed 4th grade classes we finished up working on our projects about the South. Students created power points, short movies in iMovie or projects that look similar to our Native American villages. Ask your child what their topic was and who their partners were.

In our own classroom, we created mobiles about these topics that will be hanging on display when you come for parent conferences.

In Writing we need to put the final touches on our reports about our dreamers. Today we brainstormed ideas of what we could wear for our costumes at the Biography Breakfast. We hope you are able to come - Friday the 19th at 8:15 in the Commons!
